What Is the Bounty Hunter Variant?

Bounty Hunter is the fourth special Sprite variant of Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override," announced in Epic's v42.20 update notes on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and live for every variant-capable Season 4 Sprite. It joins Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker, making it the fifth Season 4 form once you count Normal. In the Sprite directory, Bounty Hunter forms wear a magenta and pink hologram look that sets them apart from gold shimmer and green code-rain. Each one keeps its base Sprite's ability, with the bonus on top.

Epic calls them "combat-hungry Sprites": they "have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents" and level up "only from eliminations." The in-game bonus line in the fortnite.gg Sprite directory adds an exception: "Chance to find sprites when eliminating opponents. Only gains sprite XP from eliminations, unless sprite has special XP rules." That clause matters for Crown and Klombo. Crown levels only by winning matches, so Bounty Hunter Crown grows on Victory Royales, not eliminations. Klombo levels only by consuming items, and Vice reported on September 24 that you still have to feed Bounty Hunter Klombo HP items to master it. Bonus percentages quoted elsewhere are unconfirmed.

When Bounty Hunter Sprites Released and How to Get Them

Epic set the date in its v42.20 notes on September 17: "next Thursday, September 24, Bounty Hunter Sprite variants join the fray… These combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations. Rack 'em up!" The line launched at the 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET daily Sprite reset on Thursday, September 24, 2026, when the Bounty Hunter forms of 17 released Sprites went live. Morgana, the Persona 5 cat, launched at the same reset with all five forms, though Epic never announced a date for it. We verified every new row in the fortnite.gg Sprite directory that day. Bounty Hunter Crown had a week's head start, going live with v42.20 on September 17. The last row, Bounty Hunter Birthday, arrived with the Birthday Sprite on Saturday, September 26, the date Epic gave in its notes.

For every Sprite except Crown, the route Epic describes is eliminations: take out opponents for a chance at a Bounty Hunter Sprite, then extract before the match ends, because an unextracted Sprite does not count toward your collection. Some guides also list chests, Cheat Codes or trading, but Epic has not confirmed any of them. Bounty Hunter Crown is a mastery unlock instead: win a match with Loot Hacker Crown equipped and it is granted automatically. Until the rest of the line launched, the game hid it from the in-game collection screen even after you earned it, Vice reported. No Season 4 drop rate has been published, so every Bounty Hunter rate here stays marked unpublished.

Bounty Hunter vs Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker

Each special form has its own documented perk. Gold adds 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations. Cheat Master makes every Cheat Code input count as correct and wears the green code-rain look. Loot Hacker increases the chances of spawning items from your Loot Hacks. Bounty Hunter's bonus is a chance to find Sprites when eliminating opponents, paired with a rule: it gains Sprite XP only from eliminations. Gold and Bounty Hunter both reward fighting, but differently: Gold multiplies the XP you get from eliminations, while Bounty Hunter makes eliminations the only way to level.

The routes differ too. The "Loot Hacker Sprite Variant" Loot Hack (from 500 Sprite Dust) adds random Loot Hacker Sprites to your chest drops, and since the v42.20 Cheat Code Rarity Update on September 17, Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite. Epic has not said whether Bounty Hunter forms are among those variant drops, so eliminations remain the route to plan around. For collectors, the availability gap closed on September 24, and Birthday arrived with all five forms on September 26: every released Sprite except single-form Mega Man had all five forms live, and Trick or Treat made it six on October 8. Quack added a seventh form on October 15, but only for Jonesy, Bush, Adventure, Spooky Dash and Klombo.

Which Sprites Have a Bounty Hunter Form?

This variant is live for every variant-capable Season 4 Sprite. Mega Man is single-form. Spooky Dash, Vampire, The Deer, and Dumpster Dive joined with five core forms each in v42.30, and Honey and One Wish Willow have had this form since October 15, when v42.40 released them with all six forms. As of October 15, 2026, the full checklist counts 162 released rows across 27 Sprites, including the five Quack rows added that day.
