The Pond Sprite is an Epic-rarity Sprite added to Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" with the v42.20 update, and it arrived with top billing. Epic's notes led with it: "Four new Sprites have been hacked into the Island - including Pine & Kiri's #DesignASprite winner: Pond Sprite!" That makes Pond the third Design-A-Sprite contest winner to reach the game, after X-Ray and Onigiri landed on September 3. Two winners, Dumpster Dive and Honey, are still not in the game.
The ability is pure movement. Epic's summary: "Jump shortly after landing to launch a Super Jump - higher and more often with each Sprite Level!" The in-game text adds the details. It is an active ability that runs on charges: jump shortly after you land to trigger a Super Jump if you have a charge, and charges come back over time. Each Level Up makes the Super Jump stronger and shortens the cooldown. Epic has not published the jump height, the number of charges or the cooldown at any level, so no figures are listed here.
How to Get the Pond Sprite
Pond went live on Thursday, September 17, 2026 with the v42.20 update, after downtime that started around 4 AM PT / 7 AM ET. Crash Bandicoot and Blinky arrived in the same patch. Pond joined the regular Season 4 pool rather than a limited-time event, so there is no deadline to catch it. Its spawn area has not been listed yet, so the location field stays empty until it is confirmed. Until then, your best routes are roaming the island, opening chests and running Cheat Codes.
Cheat Codes work differently as of v42.20. Epic reworked how they drop Sprites: Sprites of any rarity can now come out of any Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Code, Epic codes have significantly higher chances of variants and higher-rarity Sprites, and Legendary (orange) codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite, with an emphasis on higher-rarity ones. Epic also improved Sprite hunting odds, so the longer you go without a new Sprite, the better your chances of getting a variant you don't already own. Whatever route you take, extract Pond before the match ends or it does not count. Epic has not published drop rates for any Season 4 Sprite, Pond included, so its rate column stays honestly blank.
Pond Sprite Variants: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter
Unlike X-Ray and Onigiri, whose Loot Hacker forms arrived a week after them, Pond did not have to wait for any of its live forms. Normal, Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker Pond were all live on September 17, and each is its own row on the checklist with the same Super Jump ability. Gold Pond grants 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations, which matters here because both jump strength and cooldown improve with level. Cheat Master Pond wears the season's green code-rain look and makes every Cheat Code input count as correct. Loot Hacker Pond increases the chances of items spawning from your Loot Hacks, and the "Loot Hacker Sprite Variant" Loot Hack, from 500 Sprite Dust, adds random Loot Hacker Sprites to your chest drops. It cannot be set to Pond specifically.
A fifth form is on the way. Epic says Bounty Hunter Sprite variants arrive on Thursday, September 24: "These combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations." Art for Bounty Hunter Pond is already in the files. Epic has not published any bonus for the form beyond that leveling rule. The free Sprite Checklist already shows a Bounty Hunter column with "Soon" cells, and Bounty Hunter Pond unlocks there the day it goes live.
Is the Pond Sprite Worth Using?
Pond is a movement Sprite first and foremost, and a flexible one. A Super Jump off a landing lets you take high ground without building, clear a wall mid-rotation, or leave a fight that turned against you. Because charges come back on their own, you can use it all match instead of saving it for an emergency. It works well with Jackrabbit's double jump for mountain rotations and with X-Ray's enemy marks, which tell you where to jump.
The trade-off is timing. The Super Jump only fires if you jump shortly after landing, so it takes some practice before it feels natural, and a fresh Pond has weaker jumps and longer cooldowns than a leveled one. It also does nothing to keep you alive in a fight the way Bush's hiding or Jonesy's healing does. Still, a mastered Pond is one of the best rotation tools in the Epic tier. Every extraction also counts toward v42.20's new Sprite Mastery reward, the Pixel Sprite Trainer Back Bling for extracting 30 Sprites. Extract Pond when you see it, level it, and practice the timing.
