Open the Sprite Checklist →What the Blinky Sprite Does in Season 4
The Blinky Sprite is a Legendary Sprite added to Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with the v42.20 update. It is a crossover with PAC-MAN: Blinky is the red ghost who has been chasing PAC-MAN through mazes since the arcade days, and here he joins a season already built around retro, pixel-art hacking. Epic headlined v42.20 with "Four new Sprites have been hacked into the Island," and Blinky is one of the Legendaries in that batch, alongside Crash Bandicoot.
The ability flips the ghost's role from hunter to escape artist. In Epic's words: "Taking damage cloaks you for a short time, making you harder to spot." The in-game text adds the scaling rule: the cloak lasts longer with each Level Up. Epic has not published the base duration or how much each level adds, so no figures are listed here. The key detail is the trigger — Blinky reacts to damage rather than firing on command, so the cloak arrives exactly when a fight starts going wrong.
How to Get the Blinky Sprite
Blinky became obtainable when v42.20 went live on September 17, after downtime that started around 4 AM PT / 7 AM ET. It is a regular addition to the Season 4 pool, not a limited-time event, so there is no deadline to catch it. Fittingly for a ghost, fortnite.gg lists its location as "Found in the world at nighttime," so the in-game night cycle is the window to go looking for it roaming the island. Like every Override Sprite, it can also turn up in chests and from Cheat Code consoles.
Cheat Codes work differently as of v42.20. Epic's Cheat Code Rarity Update means Sprites of any rarity can now come from any Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Code, Epic Cheat Codes have significantly increased chances of variants and higher-rarity Sprites, and Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite, with an emphasis on higher-rarity ones. Epic also improved Sprite hunting odds: the longer you go without finding a new Sprite, the better your chances of a variant you don't already own. Whatever the route, extract Blinky before the match ends or it does not count. Epic has not published Season 4 drop rates, so Blinky's rate stays an honest empty state.
Blinky Sprite Variants: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter
Four forms of Blinky went live on day one: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker, each its own row on the checklist with the same damage-triggered cloak. Gold Blinky grants 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations, which speeds up the levels that stretch the cloak. Cheat Master Blinky wears the season's green code-rain look and makes every Cheat Code input count as correct. Loot Hacker Blinky increases the chances of items spawning from your Loot Hacks, and the "Loot Hacker Sprite Variant" Loot Hack, from 500 Sprite Dust, adds random Loot Hacker Sprites to your chest drops — random, so you cannot aim it at Blinky.
The fifth form, Bounty Hunter Blinky, went live on Thursday, September 24, the date Epic had given for Bounty Hunter Sprite variants. The v42.20 notes described them this way: "These combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations." Bounty Hunter Blinky keeps the same damage-triggered cloak and wears the line's magenta hologram look. Its in-game bonus is a chance to find Sprites when eliminating opponents, and it gains Sprite XP only from eliminations. It arrived a week after Bounty Hunter Crown, a mastery unlock that went live on September 17. On our free Sprite Checklist, Bounty Hunter Blinky is a normal row, ready to tick off like any other form.
Is the Blinky Sprite Worth Using?
For players who take a lot of fights, yes. Most eliminations happen to someone who is already hurt and trying to disengage, and Blinky answers that exact moment: the first hits land, the cloak kicks in, and you become harder to track while you break line of sight, rotate to cover or heal up. It pairs naturally with Jonesy, whose healing covers the recovery once you have slipped away, and with Bush, which gives you a second way to disappear when you are not the one being shot.
The honest limits: Blinky is reactive, so it does nothing until you are already taking damage, and Epic describes the cloak as making you "harder to spot," not invisible — a player who keeps tracking you or has a mark on you can still finish the job. The duration is short at low levels and only grows with Level Ups, so a fresh Blinky is a small edge, not an escape button. As a Legendary it is also a chase find rather than a day-one pickup. When you do extract it, level it, and let every ambush you survive feed the cloak.
Trick or Treat Variant: Live
Trick or Treat Blinky went live on October 8, 2026, a week after v42.30 added its icon, so all six forms are now live: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter, and Trick or Treat. The checklist counts it toward your completion total. The Sprite directory has not published a separate Trick or Treat bonus yet, so treat the base ability as the only confirmed effect.
