What the Birthday Sprite Will Do

The Birthday Sprite is a Rare Sprite for Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" that Epic announced in the v42.20 update notes on September 17, 2026. Epic describes it this way: "Chests have a chance to serve up slices of cake when opened - at max Sprite Level, elims can too!" The in-game directory text adds the scaling: opening chests has a chance to spawn a piece of cake, eliminations can spawn cake at max level, and the chance to spawn cake goes up with each Level Up.

Epic has not published the spawn chance at any level or exactly how much a slice of cake restores, so no figures are listed here. The design is still easy to read. Birthday rewards players who loot a lot, since every chest you open is another roll, and at max level it adds a reward for winning fights. It is a Rare Sprite, the same tier as Bush, Jonesy and Onigiri.

Birthday Sprite Release Date

Epic's v42.20 notes list the Birthday Sprite as "available starting Saturday, September 26." That is a weekend release rather than the usual Thursday update, the same kind of weekend drop that brought Storm Scout on August 29. Epic has not given a time of day. Birthday was not obtainable when v42.20 went live on September 17, even though Pond, Crash Bandicoot and Blinky were.

The fortnite.gg Sprite directory lists its location as "Spotted near high and mountainous areas," the same area given for the launch roster. Once it is live you should also be able to get it from chests and Cheat Codes. As of v42.20, Sprites of any rarity can drop from any Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Code, and Legendary (orange) codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite. Epic has not published drop rates for any Season 4 Sprite, so Birthday's rate column will stay blank until real numbers exist. As with every Sprite, extract it before the match ends or it does not count.

Birthday Sprite Forms: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter

Art for all five Season 4 forms of Birthday is already in the game files: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter. Gold Sprites grant 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations, Cheat Master Sprites make every Cheat Code input count as correct, and Loot Hacker Sprites increase the chances of items spawning from your Loot Hacks. Bounty Hunter is the newest line. Epic says those variants join on Thursday, September 24, have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, and level up only from eliminations. Epic has not said which Birthday forms will be available on September 26 itself.

The free Sprite Checklist already has a Birthday row set as upcoming, so you can see it before release without it counting against your completion. We switch it to released only after it is confirmed live in the game, and each form unlocks on its own row as it becomes obtainable. That way your progress bar only counts Sprites you can actually get.

How to Prepare for the Birthday Sprite

Since Birthday pays out per chest, the best way to use it will be a loot-heavy route: land where chests are dense and open everything on the way to the circle. A leveled Birthday also rewards eliminations, so the Gold form, with its bonus XP from eliminations, looks like the natural one to level first. Until September 26, there is plenty to do. Pond, Crash Bandicoot and Blinky went live on September 17, and v42.20's Pixel Sprite Trainer Back Bling rewards extracting 30 Sprites.
