The Tails Sprite brings Sonic's two-tailed sidekick — and his signature move — into Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override." Carry this Epic-tier Sprite and you can hover in mid-air with help from Tails himself, his spinning tails holding you aloft exactly like the games. Hover speed increases as the Sprite levels up, so a mastered Tails turns a slow float into genuinely useful aerial movement.
Hovering occupies a unique niche in Fortnite's movement kit. It is not a jump boost like Jackrabbit and not ground speed like Sonic — it is airtime control. Softening drops from high ground, extending a glide across a gap, holding an off-angle in the air mid-fight, or simply surviving a misjudged ledge: Tails covers the vertical mistakes and vertical plays that no other Season 4 Sprite touches.
How to Get the Tails Sprite
The Tails Sprite is spotted near high and mountainous areas of the Override island — fittingly, the terrain where a hover ability matters most — and like all Season 4 Sprites it also appears in chests and supply drops. It is Epic rarity, so it turns up less often than the Rare line. When you do find it, extract before the match ends: only a successful extraction makes it permanent, adding Tails to your collection and Sprite Garden and unlocking him for summoning in future matches.
No drop rates have been published for the Season 4 generation yet, so we show Tails' rate as a verified empty state rather than a guess; real numbers get added the day Epic publishes them. Collectors chasing the full Sonic trio should note all three — Sonic, Tails and Shadow — sit in the Epic tier.
Tails Sprite Variants: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter
Tails has five live Season 4 variants: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter, all sharing the same hover ability; Bounty Hunter joined the lineup on Thursday, September 24. Gold Tails is the premium version with bonus Sprite XP from eliminations stacked on top. Cheat Master Tails redraws the fox in the season's Matrix-styled green code-rain — tied to the Override Cheat Code mechanic, and one of the more surreal crossover images Fortnite has produced. Loot Hacker Tails, live since September 10, brings more items from your Loot Hacks, and Bounty Hunter Tails gives you a chance to find Sprites when you eliminate opponents, though it gains Sprite XP only from eliminations.
The "Loot Hacker Sprite Variant" Loot Hack (from 500 Sprite Dust) adds random Loot Hacker Sprites to your chest drops, and Bounty Hunter Tails has a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents. The free Sprite Checklist tracks the Tails rows separately — Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter — mirroring the in-game collection, so you always know which version still needs to fly home.
Is the Tails Sprite Worth Using?
Tails is the movement pick for players who think in three dimensions. The hover is a soft skill: it will not win a straight sprint against Sonic or out-jump Jackrabbit, but it converts Fortnite's most punishing terrain — cliffs, towers, mountain ridges — into places you can fight comfortably. Since the Season 4 island's Sprites congregate around exactly that high ground, a hover ability while hunting more Sprites is a neat self-reinforcing loop.
The level curve matters here: early hover is slow enough to make you a floating target if you use it carelessly in fights, while a max-level Tails moves quickly enough to be a real combat tool. Master it before you judge it. Within the trio, pick Sonic for pure speed, Shadow for gunplay, and Tails for terrain freedom — or, since every extraction is now a permanent Sprite Garden resident, collect all three and let the day's plan decide.
Trick or Treat Variant: Upcoming
v42.30 added a Trick or Treat Tails Sprite icon on October 1, 2026, but this form is still marked unreleased in the Sprite directory. The five core forms remain live. The checklist shows Trick or Treat as Soon and excludes it from your completion total until its release is verified. The variant bonus and wider release date have not been published.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Tails Sprite do in Fortnite?
It lets you hover in mid-air with help from Tails, whose spinning tails hold you aloft. Hover speed increases with each level, turning a slow float into real aerial mobility at max level.
Is the Tails Sprite part of the Sonic collab?
Yes — Tails is one of the three Sonic the Hedgehog crossover Sprites in Chapter 7 Season 4, with Sonic (sprint speed) and Shadow (auto-reload). All three are Epic rarity.
Where do I find the Tails Sprite?
Spotted near high and mountainous areas of the Override island; it also drops from chests and supply drops like every Season 4 Sprite. Extract before the match ends to keep it.
What variants does the Tails Sprite have?
Five are live: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker, and a fifth, Bounty Hunter, went live on Thursday, September 24. All hover identically; Gold adds bonus Sprite XP from eliminations, Cheat Master is the green code-rain Season 4 variant, and Loot Hacker, live since September 10, gives you more items from your Loot Hacks. Bounty Hunter adds a chance to find Sprites when you eliminate opponents but gains Sprite XP only from eliminations.
What is the Tails Sprite's drop rate?
Epic has not published any Season 4 drop rates yet. We display a verified empty state instead of an estimate and add real rates the day they are released.
