The Crash Bandicoot Sprite is a Legendary Sprite added to Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with the v42.20 update — a crossover with the Crash Bandicoot games. Epic headlined the patch with "Four new Sprites have been hacked into the Island," and Crash arrived as one of its Legendaries, alongside Blinky. The game files call the ability Body Slam, and anyone who grew up smashing crates will recognize the move it is built on.
Epic describes it in one line: "Perform a spin attack while midair, damaging and knocking back nearby opponents." It is an active ability — jump, then trigger it in the air, and Crash whirls through anyone close by. The in-game text adds the scaling: damage increases and cooldown decreases with each Level Up. Epic has not published the base damage, knockback distance or cooldown, so no figures are listed here; what is clear is that a leveled Crash hits harder and spins more often than a fresh one.
How to Get the Crash Bandicoot Sprite
Crash Bandicoot became obtainable when v42.20 went live on September 17, after downtime that began around 4 AM PT / 7 AM ET. It is a regular addition to the Season 4 pool rather than a limited-time event, so there is no deadline. fortnite.gg lists it as "Spotted near high and mountainous areas," the same kind of terrain where Jackrabbit turns up, so ridgelines and peaks are the place to roam. Like every Override Sprite, it can also come from chests and Cheat Code consoles.
Cheat Codes changed with v42.20. Under Epic's Cheat Code Rarity Update, Sprites of any rarity can now drop from any Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Code, Epic Cheat Codes have significantly increased chances of variants and higher-rarity Sprites, and Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite, with an emphasis on higher-rarity ones — the best code route toward a Legendary like Crash. Epic also improved Sprite hunting odds, so the longer you go without a new Sprite, the better your chances of a variant you don't already own. Extract before the match ends or the find does not count. Season 4 drop rates are unpublished, so Crash's rate stays an honest empty state.
Crash Bandicoot Sprite Variants: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter
Four forms of Crash went live on day one: Normal, Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker, each its own checklist row with the same midair spin attack. Gold Crash grants 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations — a strong match for a Sprite whose damage and cooldown improve with level. Cheat Master Crash wears the season's green code-rain look and makes every Cheat Code input count as correct. Loot Hacker Crash increases the chances of items spawning from your Loot Hacks, and the "Loot Hacker Sprite Variant" Loot Hack, from 500 Sprite Dust, adds random Loot Hacker Sprites to your chest drops, though you cannot pick Crash specifically.
A fifth form is coming. Epic says Bounty Hunter Sprite variants arrive on Thursday, September 24: "These combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations." Crash Bandicoot has Bounty Hunter art in the files, with a magenta hologram look, and for a Sprite that deals damage, an elimination-only leveling path fits well. Epic has not published any other Bounty Hunter bonus. The free Sprite Checklist already shows a "Soon" cell for Bounty Hunter Crash that unlocks the day it goes live.
Is the Crash Bandicoot Sprite Worth Using?
For aggressive players, it is one of the more fun picks in Override. Crash gives you a close-range tool that does not use a weapon slot: jump into a player who is pushing you, spin, and the knockback buys space while the damage softens them up. On high, uneven ground, that knockback can also throw an opponent off their line. It pairs naturally with Jackrabbit's double jump, which keeps you airborne longer to line up the spin, and with X-Ray, whose periodic marks tell you who is close enough to hit.
The honest caveats: the spin only works midair and only hits nearby opponents, so it does nothing at range, and a fresh Crash has a longer cooldown and lower damage than a leveled one. It is a finisher and a space-maker, not a replacement for your weapons, and Blinky, Bush or Jonesy will keep you alive in ways Crash cannot. As a Legendary it is also a chase find. Extract it, lean on Gold or the upcoming Bounty Hunter form to level it through eliminations, and let the spin do the rest.
